A Lady’s Guide To The World Cup Of Soccer

Or how not to become a soccer widow for the next month.
Things gals and guys should know about the greatest game on earth.
There’s an old saying, “If you can’t beat them, join them.”
Nothing is truer for the ladies of this universe when it comes to the World Cup of soccer, starting on June 11th, and running through July 11th, in South Africa.
Almost every male that can watch a television will be glued to the games, then talking about the games, thinking about the games and dreaming about the games.
“Sorry honey, I can’t walk the dog, Ivory Coast is playing North Korea.”
“Come again?”
“You should see this guy Didier Drogba for Ivory Coast. He can do things with the ball you wouldn’t believe… and he is a real hunk too!”
Men are not as dumb as you may think, ladies. They know that they can catch more bees with honey than vinegar, so the smart gentlemen out there will entice you to take a peek at Didier, and see for yourself.
They might be thinking, “Why not try to get her on side, or even interested in what is known as The Greatest Show on Earth.”
If you’re lucky, you might see Didier score a goal, then take his jersey off…swoon!
Soccer players are hot. Not just so-so hot, but really, really hot. But don’t take my word for it, go to www.vanityfair.com and check out this month’s cover.
Presto…instant Didier, in his undies too.
The guy standing there in his briefs with Didier, is Cristiano Ronaldo, of Portugal, arguably the biggest matinee idol of the game. Paris Hilton thought so, until Cristiano moved on to other playing fields.
Inside June’s Vanity Fair issue, are ten other specimens of maleness. Don’t let names like Kaka, Pato, Sulley, Dejan and Gianluigi, fool you. These guys are the best of the best, in more ways than one.
So run, don’t walk, to your local newsstand and pick up a copy, before they are all gone. Pick out your favourite, and when the matches start, follow him on the field. You will see more than an eyeful of handsome, athletic sexy men.
So, who am I, and what makes me an expert on hot soccer players? Do I like men?
Well, the answer is yes, athletically speaking. I love to watch men compete at the top of there game, no matter what sport it is.
But I love women more. For a lot of reasons.
First of all, I am married to a great woman. We have been together sixteen years, second marriage for both of us. I have raised two daughters, and welcomed a daughter and a son into our expanded family. Two lovely, precious granddaughters have blessed our lives, and there is another baby, (sex unknown) about to join our happy gang.
Family is first and foremost, but a guy must have a diversion, and my diversion is soccer.
In 1990, I started to write a story about a young soccer player growing up in Argentina. Writing was a form of therapy for me, after the tragic loss of my first wife.
Over the years, the book was published by Amazon’s subsidiary BookSurge Publications, and it is still the only novel I have seen that deals with the inside story of the World Cup of soccer.
The name of the central character is “Renaldo.”, and that happens to be the title of the book.
Renaldo is a hottie, yet very shy and naïve about life’s twists and turns. He falls in love with someone almost untouchable. But in fiction, dreams can come true.
I have been a soccer fanatic since I was eighteen years young. On a school trip to Europe in the summer of 1966, I discovered true passion, in many forms.
With hormones raging, and with seventeen males and thirty-four females on the trip, the odds were pretty good for a summer of love. Not to mention the local attractions.
It was a trip of a lifetime, but what I came home with, more than any other thing, was a lust for the sport known around the world as “football.”
The World Cup was being played in England that July, and by the time they beat Germany in the final game to win their one and only World Cup Trophy, I was hooked.
Never had I seen sporting passion from so many nationalities and diverse social classes like I witnessed there. The sport of football is truly the universal language.
So ladies, what can I do for you?
I can start with the basics of the game, as it pertains to the unique female perspective. Not too much technical blather, but enough to know why the referee blows his whistle and that beautiful goal was disallowed.
I will throw in links to the “Hottie of the Day,” once the tournament starts, and provide insight into why the tournament is unfolding the way it is.
I am, to quote soccer writer, Jerrad Peters, in the “Missionary Position.” Which means my role is to spread the gospel of soccer to anyone, female or male, around the globe, who is interested. ( Bet you were thinking of something else.)
I want to write entertaining, fun commentary, and also answer your questions, if possible.
The World Cup is serious business, but life is serious enough.
Kick off those high heels, put on your comfy’s and watch the best athletes in the world do their stuff.
It might change you relationship, or at least give you a tingle or two.
